The new theoretical building is on the cusp of handover: it encompasses student spaces, lecture halls and seminar rooms, and will house many departments, as well as the new cafeteria. The cafeteria open 12 hours a day started its one-month trial run on August 23. Medical School and Clinical Centre employees were surprised with coupons to the cafeteria for its opening by the Dean’s Office.
The new cafeteria on the southern ground floor of the new building will be able to seat around one hundred people (plus the places outside on the terrace), and will also house a café, said Katalin Nagy, who is also the manager of Pezsgőház Restaurant in Pécs.
The restaurant will be open Monday-Friday, between 7am and 7pm. After the test run (probably after September 13), it will also be open Saturdays between 8am and 3pm, but this still depends on the experiences of the test run.
In the mornings, visitors will be able to buy fresh sandwiches (Hungarian, Asian and Mediterranean), egg dishes, granola and baked goods. Lunch will be two types of soup (Hungarian and international), and three-five main courses, but pre-packaged meals (salads, other dishes) will be available for those who only have a minute to run and buy something.
Katalin Nagy also told us that they will prepare fresh dishes for the 2-3pm time stretch as well: daily offers will be hamburgers, pasta dishes or some sort of street food; the variety will be widened by roasted and fried foods as well.
There are plans for a simple evening meal option as well, available between 5-7pm. This would be ideal for those who want to get a meal for dinner at home. However, the management will wait until the end of the test run with this, as they still want to survey the demand for such an option.
The café will be open all day, offering drinks and desserts made on the spot.
The first two weeks of the menu are already set, the daily offers are available on the restaurant’s website (www.umamipecs.hu) and Facebook page. A lunch menu newsletter is also in the plans.
UP MS and Clinical Centre employees working in education, research, administration and education support can test the new restaurant at a discount with the support of the Dean’s Office: everyone got three 500 HUF coupons, to be used by July 30, 2022. Only one coupon can be used per meal.
