The Zsolnay Light Festival will bring almost 150 individual small events to Pécs, including attractions previously unseen. The event will take place between September 30 and October 3. The extravagant lights will now also cover the new theoretical building of the University of Pécs Medical School.
According to the announcement of the Zsolnay Heritage Management Ltd., the first and only light festival of the country will have light painting and installations in 23 locations in Pécs. These will make up the Light Road, leading visitors into an extraordinary, magical world.
For the first time now, there will be a Light Road location outside of the city centre. In cooperation with the University of Pécs, the Medical School’s new theoretical building will have a 6 metres tall light installation projected onto it, forming parts of a neural network. The light beams will represent the information streams between neurons.
The Zsolnay Light Art Mapping Competition, covering the Cathedral in three-dimensional light projections attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year. The ten best light artists will introduce themselves at the festival, including artists from Japan, Italy, Ecuador, Spain, France, Romania, Germany and Hungary. They are rewarded 1000 EUR for getting into the finals, and the winner of the competition will receive 5000 EUR. A spectator favourite will also be chosen.

The organisers emphasized that the locations of the Light Road can be visited freely, but the Zsolnay Light Art Mapping Competition and the street performances and concerts require an immunity card.
