The Medical School honored the athletes of the 49th Medical Cup with a greeting and a reception. They won second place in the competition of the four Hungarian medical schools held in Pécs between 8 and 10 April.
The renowned Medical Cup has been held every year since 1972 in one of the cities of the four medical schools - DE ÁOK, UPMS, SZTE ÁOK, Semmelweis University.
This year, Pécs hosted the event between 8 and 10 April, organized by the Student Council, the University Student Council, the Sports and Physical Education Center, and the Marketing and Communications Department. Our School finished in the second place in the overall ranking, only slightly behind Semmelweis University who took the first place, Debrecen the third, and Szeged the fourth.
The greeting of the athletes participating in the 49th Medical Cup was held on 21 April in the new theoretical building of the University of Pécs.
Dr. Miklós Nyitrai, dean of the Medical School, emphasized that the organization of the Cup and the atmosphere were sensational. He thanked the coaches, trainers, and organizers for their work and the great effort they put into the competition. He congratulated the athletes; as he said, they achieved excellent results and fought very challenging battles.
"It was beautiful, I envy you, you did very well, we are proud of you!"
said the dean. According to him, the Medical Cup was a wonderful celebration for the students, the university, and the city. As he said, the difference in points was minimal in Budapest's favor; they fought with sportsmanship, they were good, had good teams, and deserve congratulations.
"Failure, however, is good for you sometimes; it provides the basis for future victories. However, having taken the cup away from us, we do not need to spend any time motivating ourselves for next year's jubilee Medical Cup in Budapest. Let's prepare for it with honor and may the better team win - but let ours be the better team!"

After the dean's greeting, Dr. István Karsai, head of the UPMS Sports and Physical Education Center, and Tamás Téczely, physical education teacher, handed over the certificates of recognition to the teams. At the end of the event, the athletes were invited to a reception at the Umami Restaurant.
