Dentistry students can start the 2023/2023 academic year in September in the newly initiated Dental Education Centre of the University of Pécs Medical School. The outpatient care will start in this building from August 8.
As we have already reported, the new Dental Education Centre of the UP was handed over in Spring. The five-story building with 2750 square metres useful floor space building is directly across the Medical School under Tüzér street 1. It was built within the framework of the Széchenyi 2020 program from almost 2.7 billion Hungarian forints.
The director of the UP Clinical Centre Department of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Ákos Károly Nagy has stated after the handover, that they will move to the new building from their old location in Dischka Győző street in three stages after acquiring the necessary treatment equipment. They expected the new equipment to arrive sooner, but they experienced delays due to the war and the material shortage caused by it. According to the director, this did not prevent them from starting outpatient care in the new building from August 8, and dentistry students will be able to start education there from September.
“The move will happen during the first days of August, but we will continue to provide care for acute cases in the Dischka Győző street clinic during this time” – sayd Dr- Ákos Károly Nagy, director of the clinic.
The phone numbers will remain the same for the time being, so patients can call the usual contacts to get appointments. Staff of the clinic asks patients to inquire before their appointments about the exact location of their treatment.
It’s not only patient care and education that will reach new hights at the new location – the environment will also be aesthetic. The new Dental Education Centre will be decorated by the works of students from the UP Faculty of Music and Visual arts, based on an agreement between the two faculties. The roof and the surroundings of the building will be made friendlier by plants offered by the UP Botanical Garden. Discussions have started with the dean of the UP Faculty of Music and Visual Arts, dr. Péter Lengyel about using the corridors of the new dental block to host permanent and seasonal exhibitions.
