From 23 to 27 March, the Medical School in Pécs will celebrate the fifth anniversary of its Well-Being Program with a week-long series of events. Students, faculty members and staff will be invited to take part in a wide variety of activities, including lectures, workshops, a farmers’ market, photo sessions, assistance dogs, healthy treats, games and giveaways, all centred around physical and mental health, healthy eating, sport and sustainability.
Each day of the anniversary week will follow a different theme. Monday will focus on healthy nutrition, Tuesday on sport and recreation, Wednesday on mental health, Thursday on physical health, and Friday on sustainability. Events will take place in both the old and new buildings, and, weather permitting, in the northern park as well.
The opening day, dedicated to healthy eating, will feature programmes such as a Smoothie Bar, a DIY Workshop and a nutrition quiz. Monday will also mark the opening of the Children’s Drawing Exhibition for Heart Day, which will remain on display throughout the week. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Sports Corner and the photo spots throughout the entire week. In addition, Well-Being idea boxes will be available from Monday to Friday. These boxes allow members of the faculty community to share feedback, personal experiences and ideas about the programme, along with suggestions for future developments.
Tuesday, devoted to sport and recreation, will begin with a Cyclists’ Breakfast, followed by Tai Chi, Frisbee Toss and the Lemonade with the Peers community gathering, all offering opportunities for active relaxation and recharging.
Wednesday will revolve around mental health. Participants will be able to receive graphology-based counselling, complete self-awareness tests and try Tibetan singing bowl meditation. One of the day’s most heartwarming programmes will be a presentation by the ÉletHíd Assistance Dog Foundation, where visitors can learn more about the work of assistance dogs and the important role they play in everyday life. The day will also feature a highlight event: an interactive session by psychiatrist and coach Dr. Katalin Piczkó in the Dr. György Romhányi Aula, where workplace situations will be brought to life. Participants will not only observe these scenes, but also actively reflect on them together, exploring constructive communication and effective coping strategies.
On Thursday, the focus shifts to physical health, with activities designed around movement and recharging. These will include a group yoga session in the northern park, a music-based exercise class, “Fit in your chair” programme, as well as beer pong and stair-run challenge for those who prefer lighter or more playful forms of activity. During the day, melanoma screening will also be available in the area between the new building and the northern park. To round off the day, participants can unwind in the board games corner.
The closing day on Friday will turn the spotlight on sustainability. In line with the theme, the aula will be transformed into a farmers’ market. The organisers will also prepare a few extra treats: visitors will be able to enjoy ice cream and sample a special Well-Being birthday muffin.
The programmes of Well-Being Week are free to attend, although some events require prior registration due to expected high interest. The full programme is available in the "Events" section of the UPMS website.
