The handover of the Bajnóczky Award

14 December 2021

Every year, the dean of our School can award the Bajnóczky Award to a teacher, staff member or student who performs outstanding activities in the field of literature, music, fine arts, theatre, photography, or dance. The award is given to two people a year - a student and a staff member. The decision is made by a four-member board of trustees, whose members are the current Vice-Dean for student welfare, the widow of dr. István Bajnóczky or a person authorized by her, and two students (a Hungarian and an international) of the School.

The award is a bronze casting with the portrait of dr. István Bajnóczky on one side, the inscription “Bajnóczky Prize” in the lower third of the medal, the inscription “University of Pécs Medical School” on the other side, and the name of the awardee and the year of the handover in the middle. The awardee will also receive a certificate and financial reward.

The Bajnóczky Award in the employee category in 2021 was awarded to the staff of the Ferenc Medgyessy Art Workshop based on the decision of Dr. Tamás Tényi, Vice-Dean for General Affairs, Student Welfare and International Relations, Angela Dömse, the widow of Professor Bajnóczky, and students Martin Pénzes and Laith Musharbasch.

The group was founded in 1972 and has university teacher, staff, and student members. Since 1981, our Medical School has created the necessary conditions for its operation. The works they make - in accordance with the tradition, after their exhibition in the György Romhányi aula - they give them as gifts to decorate the institutes of the Medical School.

In the student category - as there was no award in 2020 – both a Hungarian and an international student were awarded.

Orsolya Kintli, a sixth-year student has an excellent artistic sense and regularly helps visualize the events and projects of various student organizations (HÖK, POE, Medical Cup teams). From 2018, she also holds a course on drawing on the right side of the brain, during which she approaches art from a scientific point of view. Due to the pandemic, she moved her course to the online space.

Reyhaneh Dehdari, a fourth-year student has been playing the piano for 15 years and is a regular participant at university and School events. She has had four solo concerts at the university and also teaches playing the piano to students.

Due to the pandemic, unfortunately the Advent Concert was cancelled this year as well, therefore the handover of the award was held in the Dean's Conference Room on 14 December.
